Eishin Juku

Whilst many modern karate clubs emphasise a sporting style of karate, we at Eishin Juku seek to return to the original purpose of karate as an effective martial art.


At Eishin Juku we study and train in traditional Japanese Shotokan karate, utilising the whole body to produce explosively powerful techniques.




Eishin Juku karate is equally open to men and women, and our membership is split roughly 50/50 between men and women.


Eishin Juku is a small dojo, and we like to keep it small. Unlike many commercial dojos, we're happy just to cover our costs - keeping both training fees and our student-to-sensei ratio down, which results in an almost personal level of instruction.

We think there's a certain beauty in the pursuit of perfection of timing, co-ordination and technique that epitomises Eishin Juku karate. In an era where Shotokan Karate is seen by many as the "sport form" of karate, largely due to the emphasis of points-based tournaments, we wish to return to the emphasis of the perfection of fundamental techniques that Funakoshi himself expounded.
